ೃ⁀➷ MOVIE ANALYSIS *ೃ༄

Hello, welcome back to my blog! For my camera shot and angle analysis, the movie I watched was "To All the Boys I Loved Before".

In the first shot I will be talking about, the type of angle is a canted angle. This angle shows how the main character, Lara Jean, is slowly falling unconscious after hearing a shocking statement. The purpose of a Canted or Tilted angle is to show disorientation or instability, and is done in this scene to make the viewer feel dizzy and unbalanced. This shot angle also helps the viewer understand how the main character feels in the scene. For example when watching this scene, the viewer will feel uneasy with Lara Jean because the canted angle is creating that sense of anxiety. If this shot was not tilted, the viewer would not get the feeling of uneasiness.

The second angle I will be talking about is the High Angle.  This angle makes the subject look vulnerable and helpless. In this scene, the main character Lara Jean, just found out that letters she wrote to her past lovers got sent without her knowing. The shot shows her looking up at the empty shelf, and the camera angle being a high angle emphasizes her helpless state, and shows how she is feeling in the scene. The High Angle also makes Lara Jean look alone, and makes the viewer see her as lonely in this scene. The angle also emphasizes the fact that the letter box is no longer in its normal space. Overall, this angle makes the viewer feel empathetic for the character.

The third shot I will be talking about is a Two-Shot.  This type of shot shows the relationship between two characters. In this scene, Lara Jean and Josh have a conversation over the letter that she sent to him. This type of shot adds to the story by showing how their relationship is awkward and how they are not as close to each other. The shot helps tell the story by showing the drift between the two characters now, compared to the beginning of the movie. This also makes the viewer note their body language, as you can see in the photo below Lara Jean (the girl) is very closed off. This also makes the viewer feel the tension in the scene.

The fourth shot I will be analyzing is an Establishing Shot. An establishing shot sets the scene, and shows the location to the viewers. In this scene, the characters are going on a ski trip, and the shot tells the viewer that there is a change of location and the action will take place somewhere else. The shot also gives off a warm feeling, as the weather in the shot is calm, which could tell the viewer that the next part of the movie will be calm. This helps tell the story by showing where the characters are going, and shows an overview of the setting.

The final shot I will be talking about is a close-up shot. A close up shot emphasizes the characters emotions and shows the details of the persons face. In this scene, Lara Jean finds out that her boyfriend did not prioritize the gifts she gave her. The close-up shows the feeling of sadness she is feeling, and makes the viewer feel sad as well. This helps tell the story by showing the change in emotions throughout the movie. This makes the viewer feel melancholic about Lara Jean and understand how she is feeling betrayed. This also makes the viewer feel annoyed towards Lara's boyfriend for ruining their relationship and think of him as untrustworthy. The close-up shot makes it known to the viewer that the character is feeling sad and shocked.
